Eraclea Mare lies on the coast of the town of Eraclea between the resorts of Jesolo and Caorle. The seaside resort itself only emerged with the development of tourism in the 20th century, while the history of the town of Eraclea dates back to the 7th century. The name Eraclea first appears in 640, when a diocese of the same name was established here. At that time, the town belonged to the important centres of the northern Adriatic and maintained trade and diplomatic relations with the Byzantine Empire as well as the Lombard court in Pavia. Later, it also went through a period of development under the Venetian Republic.
Eraclea Mare is a symbol of a peaceful seaside holiday. The surrounding landscape consists of pine forests, agricultural areas, vineyards, and orchards, which together create an environment different from most large seaside resorts. Laguna del Mort
Just a few kilometres from the centre lies the protected natural landscape area Laguna del Mort with rich fauna. It was formed after the Piave River changed its course. Narrow paths lead between dunes and pine trees.
Important notice: Laguna del Mort is one of the best-known unofficial nudist beaches in Italy. If you go there, expect that part of the beach is regularly used by nudists.
Beach
The approximately six-kilometre-long beach is among the main reasons why tourists regularly return to Eraclea Mare. Fine golden sand, a gentle entry into the sea, and plenty of space make it an ideal place especially for families with small children. Thanks to the width of the beach, even during the high season there is usually no feeling of overcrowding.
The beach is divided into private sections with umbrellas and sun loungers as well as freely accessible parts where you can set up your own equipment. In total, it offers more than 900 beach spots. Modern changing cabins, showers, toilets, refreshments, children’s playgrounds, sports zones, free Wi‑Fi, and sports equipment rentals are a given. The centre of Eraclea Mare itself is also mostly flat, so moving along the main promenade is comfortable even for people using a wheelchair or walker. Services
Eraclea Mare is a typical seasonal seaside resort that literally comes alive from spring to early autumn. The main tourist season usually begins around the Easter holidays, gets fully underway in May, and peaks in July and August. During this period, almost all restaurants, cafés, shops, ice cream parlours, bakeries, bars, and tourist services are open.
The centre of activity is mainly the main street Via Dancalia, which in the evening turns into a pleasant pedestrian promenade. Here you will find shops with souvenirs, fashion, beach equipment, groceries, and drugstore items. Of course, there are pizzerias, restaurants focused on fresh fish and seafood, cafés, bars, or traditional Italian gelaterias.
There is also a pharmacy, ATMs, bicycle rentals, travel agencies, and smaller supermarkets. In the summer months, stalls with fruit, local products, or handicrafts are also available.
Although Eraclea Mare is a smaller resort, you will find most common services here within comfortable walking distance. As a result, many visitors can do without a car after arrival and move around throughout the holiday only on foot or by bike.
Outside the main tourist season, the situation is different. In the winter months, only some restaurants and shops remain open; most hotels, apartment complexes, and tourist services are closed. Basic services for local residents tend to be open, such as the pharmacy, groceries, or some restaurants with limited opening hours.
Thanks to this, Eraclea Mare retains its calm character and outside the season feels more like a seaside village than a tourist centre.
Activities
Although Eraclea Mare is not among the large resorts, it offers more opportunities for an active holiday than it might seem at first glance. The greatest advantage is the combination of the sea, the pine forest, and the surrounding nature, which creates ideal conditions for both sport and relaxation.
Cycling
Eraclea Mare is a great starting point for cycling trips. The flat terrain is suitable for families with children as well as recreational cyclists. Among the easiest and most popular routes are the ride to the protected area of Laguna del Mort (approx. 7 km, an easy route suitable even for small children), a trip along the coast to the mouth of the Piave River and further to the town of Eraclea (approx. 12 km round trip, mostly flat), or a ride to the nearby resort of Caorle (approx. 18 km one way).
The route runs mostly on cycle paths and quiet roads. More demanding cyclists can also set out on a longer loop toward the Vallevecchia nature park or to the wine-growing areas around San Donà di Piave (20–30 km depending on the chosen route). Several marked cycle paths run in the area, and many hotels offer bicycle rentals.
Walks through the pine forest
The pine grove that separates the beach from the town is not just pleasant shade during hot days. A network of forest paths invites morning walks, running, or Nordic walking. In the summer months it is more pleasant here than on the heated promenade, and the scent of pine trees creates a unique atmosphere.
Water sports
On the main beach you can rent pedal boats or try some of the water sports, whose offer changes slightly each season. Thanks to the gentle entry into the sea, the area is suitable even for beginners.
Golf
Golf lovers will appreciate the proximity of two quality golf facilities. Golf Club Prà delle Torri near Caorle and Golf Club Jesolo are about fifteen to twenty minutes away by car and are among the most sought-after courses in the Veneto region.
Horse riding
On the outskirts of Eraclea Mare, there is a smaller equestrian facility where it is possible to arrange individual rides as well as lessons for beginners. The surrounding landscape offers pleasant routes leading between pine forests and farmland.
Organized trips
If you want to discover more of the Veneto region during your holiday, you can take advantage of offers from local travel agencies. During the high season, they organise day trips to Venice, to the islands of the Venetian Lagoon, to historic towns, or boat trips along the coast.

Summer program
During the summer season, open-air concerts, evening markets, animation programs for children, sports tournaments, and cultural events on the promenade are regularly held in Eraclea Mare. The program changes slightly every year, and its current overview is published by the tourist information centre and the town of Eraclea.
The evening atmosphere is more intimate than in Jesolo, which many visitors consider one of the resort’s greatest advantages. Instead of noisy nightclubs, restaurants, live music, and promenades prevail here.
Winter in Eraclea Mare
Although most people associate Eraclea Mare primarily with a summer holiday, it also has its charm outside the main tourist season. From October to March, the resort becomes significantly quieter and only a few hundred residents remain. The beaches are almost empty, restaurants and hotels gradually close, and the coast belongs mainly to locals, fishermen, and lovers of long walks. Most seasonal restaurants and shops are also boarded up for the winter so that wind and seawater do not damage them.
The coldest months are January and February, when daytime temperatures usually range between 5 and 10 °C. Snow is very rare here; much more common are fog, stronger winds, or rainy weather. Nevertheless, winter days are often surprisingly sunny and pleasant, especially when a dry northerly wind blows.
As on the rest of the northern Adriatic coast, during strong autumn or winter storms the sea can exceptionally come close to the coastal buildings. Thanks to its location between the mouth of the Piave River and the lagoon, Eraclea Mare is partly protected from the largest tidal waves, and more extensive damage is rather rare.
After winter storms, regular beach maintenance takes place. The sand is levelled, access paths are repaired, and beach facilities are prepared so that everything is ready for the start of the new tourist season.
The first hotels, restaurants, and shops usually open around Easter. Real tourist life gets fully underway in May, when almost all services begin to open.
Trips in the surrounding area
One of the greatest advantages of Eraclea Mare is its location. With a short drive by car or bus, you can reach a number of historic towns, nature reserves, and well-known tourist destinations. If you spend a longer holiday here, it is definitely worth setting aside a few days to explore the surrounding region.
Venice
The most famous city in the Veneto region is about an hour away by car. Venice offers the unique atmosphere of historic alleys, canals, bridges, and world-famous landmarks such as St. Mark’s Square, the Doge’s Palace, or the Rialto Bridge.
Caorle
The colourful historic centre, picturesque harbour, Romanesque cathedral, and the seaside promenade with sculptures carved into the rocks make Caorle one of the most beautiful towns on the northern Adriatic. It is about a 15-minute drive from Eraclea Mare.
Jesolo
If you crave a livelier atmosphere, shopping, or evening entertainment, you can visit nearby Jesolo. It offers a long pedestrian promenade, hundreds of shops, restaurants, bars, the Caribe Bay water park, and many other attractions.
Treviso
The historic town crisscrossed by canals is often referred to as “little Venice.” It offers a beautiful medieval centre, arcades, squares, and plenty of cafés and restaurants. This is also where the world-famous dessert tiramisu comes from, for example.
Portogruaro
Less well known, but a very charming historic town with Venetian architecture, medieval houses, and romantic alleys. Thanks to the smaller number of tourists, you can experience a more authentic atmosphere of the region here.
San Donà di Piave
The largest town in the area is an important transport and shopping centre. Here you will find large supermarkets, shopping centres, restaurants, and train connections to Venice or Trieste.
Aquileia
If you are interested in history, be sure not to miss Aquileia, which is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In antiquity it was among the most important cities of the entire Roman Empire, and to this day you can admire an extensive archaeological site and magnificent early Christian mosaics.
Transport accessibility
Eraclea Mare is very easily accessible by car, bus, and plane. Thanks to its location between Venice and Caorle, it is among the easily reachable resorts in the northern Adriatic.

By plane
The nearest airport is Venice Marco Polo, about 40 kilometres away. The second option is Treviso Antonio Canova Airport, which is about 50 kilometres from the resort.
From both airports you can reach Eraclea Mare either by a combination of bus lines or by a rental car. In the main tourist season, connections are very good.
By bus
During the summer season, connections are mainly provided by ATVO (Azienda Trasporti Veneto Orientale). Direct bus lines connect Eraclea Mare with Venice, Mestre, Marco Polo Airport, San Donà di Piave, Jesolo, and other resorts along the coast.
If you are travelling from other parts of Italy, you will most often transfer in San Donà di Piave, the main transport hub of this area.
The buses are modern, air-conditioned, and during the summer season they run regularly several times a day.
Tickets
Tickets can be purchased online via the ATVO website, at sales points (tabaccino), at bus stations, or from selected retailers. On some routes, it is also possible to buy a ticket directly from the driver if there is available capacity.

By car
For most tourists from the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Austria, or Germany, travelling by car is the most convenient mode of transport.
Eraclea Mare lies just a few kilometres from the A4 Turin–Trieste motorway, which connects Venice with Trieste. Most often, you exit at San Donà di Piave – Noventa di Piave, from where it is about 20 kilometres to the resort.
Most hotels and apartment houses offer their own parking. During the high season, we recommend checking parking availability when booking accommodation, as some facilities have a limited number of parking spaces.

If you are arriving by car, keep in mind paid motorways. In the high season, traffic jams can form especially on Saturday mornings on the A4 motorway and when arriving at seaside resorts. In Eraclea Mare itself, most shops, restaurants, and the beach are within walking distance, so you often won’t need a car at all during your holiday.
When is the best time to visit Eraclea Mare and what are prices like during the high season?
The quietest period is usually late May, June, and the first half of September, when the sea is already pleasantly warm, the weather is stable, and the resort is not as crowded. The highest visitor numbers and prices are traditionally in the second half of July and in August. If you are looking for a quieter holiday and better prices, we recommend June or September.
What activities and attractions for children are there in Eraclea Mare and the surrounding area?
The biggest attraction is the wide sandy beach with a gentle entry into the sea, ideal even for the smallest children. Children’s playgrounds, cycle paths through the pine forest, and easy walks to the natural area of Laguna del Mort are also popular. If you want to spice up your holiday with water attractions, about a 20-minute drive from Eraclea Mare you will find the popular Caribe Bay water park in Jesolo. Another option is the family water park Aquafollie in Caorle.
