Travelling to Italy with a dog

Before travelling to Italy, your dog must be microchipped, have a European pet passport, and be vaccinated against rabies. It is also advisable to carry a muzzle, as it may be required on public transport or in some public areas.

While on the beach, always keep your dog under control, clean up after it, and follow the local rules. Some private beaches may require you to present a vaccination record or other health documentation upon entry.

Can dogs go to all beaches?

During the main summer season, entry with dogs is not allowed on most regular beaches. What types of dog beaches can you find in Veneto?

The most comfortable option is specialised dog beaches, which usually offer:

Some also include agility equipment, trainer services, and veterinary assistance.

Public dog zones

A number of seaside municipalities have designated sections of public beaches where dogs are allowed. These sections are usually free of charge but usually have few or no additional facilities.

Natural beaches

Lovers of a quieter environment will appreciate natural locations outside the main tourist centres. Brussa, near Caorle, is an excellent choice for visitors looking for a more natural setting.

How much does a spot on a dog beach cost?

Public dog zones are generally free. On private beaches, prices are similar to regular private beach clubs. For an umbrella and two sun loungers, you will pay approximately 20 to 40 EUR per day during the main season; in the most sought-after locations, the price may be higher.

Keep in mind that dog areas usually occupy only a small part of the beach and spaces can fill up quickly during the summer season. It is therefore worth booking in advance.

Dog beaches in the Veneto region

Rosolina Mare

On the southern coast of the Veneto region lies Rosolina Mare, which offers a calmer atmosphere than the better-known resorts of the northern Adriatic. Tamerici Dog Beach is located here, established in 2011 in the natural setting of the Po Delta Regional Park.

Sottomarina and Chioggia

Astoria Dog Beach and Le Tegnùe Beach

Sottomarina is known for its wide sandy beach and long seaside promenade. Visitors with dogs can mainly use Astoria Dog Beach and Le Tegnùe Beach. Both beaches allow dogs and provide direct access to the sea.

A big advantage is the proximity of the historic city of Chioggia, nicknamed Little Venice for its network of canals. The combination of swimming and visiting the historic centre makes Sottomarina an interesting stop for more than just dog owners.

Lido di Venezia

Pachuka Bau Beach

In the northern part of the island of Lido di Venezia is Pachuka Bau Beach, the only fully equipped dog beach on the Venetian Lido.

Dogs are allowed to swim with their owners in a designated area of the sea. They can also use dog showers after swimming, and fresh drinking water is available throughout the beach. There are also relaxation areas intended specifically for visitors with dogs.

A few simple rules apply on the beach. Dogs must be supervised by their owners and kept on a leash. Entry for females is not allowed during heat, and cleaning up after pets is a given.

Cavallino-Treporti

Spiaggia Libera Punta Sabbioni

The best-known public dog beach in Cavallino-Treporti is located at sea access no. 1 in Punta Sabbioni. The long sandy beach offers plenty of space for relaxation and long walks, and dogs can use the designated access to the sea here. Thanks to its location near Venice and the ferry port, it is among the most visited dog beaches on the northern Adriatic coast.

Spiaggia Libera Ca’ Ballarin

Another public dog-friendly area is located at access no. 22 in Ca’ Ballarin. It offers a quieter alternative to Punta Sabbioni for visitors staying in the central part of Cavallino-Treporti. Dogs are welcome on the beach, provided the local rules are respected.

Spiaggia Libera Cavallino

The public section at access no. 31 in Cavallino allows entry with dogs and connects to several kilometres of sandy coastline. Thanks to this, it is a popular place not only for swimming but also for longer walks along the sea.

Jambo Dog Beach

The private Jambo Dog Beach is among the best-equipped dog beaches in the area. It offers umbrella and sun lounger rentals, dog showers, water bowls, waste bins, and a range of services designed to make your visit more comfortable for both owners and their four-legged companions.

Dog Camp – Union Lido

Part of the well-known Union Lido campsite is the extensive Dog Camp, which is among the best-equipped facilities for a holiday with dogs in Europe. Designated beach sectors, access to the sea, fenced runs, showers, veterinary services, and a wide range of other facilities are available. Thanks to its extensive range of services, Union Lido attracts visitors from all over Europe.

Jesolo

Jesolo is among the most visited resorts of the northern Adriatic and offers visitors with dogs several options. In addition to the fully equipped Bau Bau Beach, there are two public locations where entry with dogs is allowed under specified conditions.

During the summer season, dogs may enter only designated beaches or places that explicitly allow them. Swimming is possible only in marked sections.

Bau Bau Beach

Bau Bau Beach on Via Vittorio Veneto is among the oldest dog beaches on the Venetian coast. It is located within the Nemo Beach complex and offers a designated part of the beach with direct access to the sea, where dogs are allowed to swim.

Visitors have access to dog showers, water bowls, an agility playground, fenced sections, and shaded relaxation areas. They can choose classic beach spots, fenced sectors, VIP zones, or spacious gazebos.

The complex includes restaurants, refreshments, children’s playgrounds, sports facilities, and barrier-free access. During the main season, demand for spots is high, so it is advisable to reserve in advance.

Spiaggia del Faro

On the western edge of Jesolo, at the mouth of the Sile River, is the free beach Spiaggia del Faro. Compared to the central part of the resort, it offers a quieter environment and is popular among visitors who prefer a calmer coastline.

Spiaggia Via Dragan

Another option is the beach at the mouth of the Piave River on Via Dragan. Entry with dogs is possible here only after prior reservation via the JBeach app.

The location offers more peace than the main beaches in Jesolo and is suitable for visitors seeking a less crowded setting. Outside the main bathing season, the rules for entry with dogs may change, so we recommend checking the current conditions before visiting.

Eraclea Mare

Eraclea Mare is a smaller, quieter resort with extensive pine forests and a natural coastline. It offers more space and tranquillity, which is especially appreciated by visitors travelling with dogs. Dogs are not allowed on the entire beach here, but since 2023, the resort has offered a designated dog beach. The biggest advantage is the proximity of the protected natural area Laguna del Mort, which is ideal for walks and swimming with a dog.

Spiaggia di Eraclea Mare

On the resort’s main beach, there is a designated dog-friendly area where you can rent a beach spot with an umbrella. Some spots are complemented by a fenced area, which provides dogs with greater comfort and safety during their stay on the beach.

The facilities include showers for rinsing dogs after swimming, bowls with fresh water, and designated access to the sea for swimming with your dog.

Laguna del Mort

Just a few kilometres from the centre of Eraclea Mare lies the natural beach Laguna del Mort, which is among the most beautiful natural locations on the Venetian coast. You can get here on foot from Eraclea Mare or via trails leading through the pine forest.

Unlike the main beach, you will not find any services or facilities here. Laguna del Mort is a completely natural and largely undeveloped area, with no showers, refreshments, or sun lounger rentals. If you are heading here with a dog, don’t forget to bring plenty of drinking water and everything you need for a day outdoors.

Thanks to the peaceful environment, dunes, and surrounding pine forests, Laguna del Mort is an ideal place for long walks in nature away from the main tourist centres.

Caorle

Caorle is among the most popular resorts of the northern Adriatic and offers several ways to enjoy a stay by the sea with a dog. In addition to equipped dog beaches, you will find public designated zones and natural stretches of coastline. Whether you’re looking for a fully equipped beach or a quieter natural setting, you’ll find several good options here.

Bau Beach Levante

In the Levante area, in sector L9, there is Bau Beach, with facilities specifically for visitors with dogs. Beach spots, a designated corridor for entering the sea, and the option to swim together are available.

Before visiting, we recommend checking the current conditions and any requirements to present proof of the dog’s vaccination.

Pets’ Beach Area – Ponente

On the western beach between sectors P14 and P15, there is a free public dog zone measuring approximately 40 × 40 meters. Although you will not find sun loungers or other beach services here, you can spend time with your dog and use the designated access to the sea.

Dogs must be kept on a leash no longer than 1.3 meters, and owners should carry a muzzle.

Duna Verde

A small, quiet resort with lush nature and pine groves. Ideal for walks with a dog.

BiDog Beach

Opposite the Villaggio San Francesco resort is BiDog Beach, one of the best-equipped dog beaches in the Caorle area.

Visitors have access to designated beach sectors, grassy relaxation areas, agility equipment, dog showers, and the option to swim in a designated part of the sea. During the season, events focused on dog care and training are regularly held here.

Guests of the Villaggio San Francesco resort have free entry; other visitors can use a one-day admission ticket.

Brussa

The Vallevecchia Nature Reserve is a protected natural area located between Bibione and Caorle, bordered by the lagoon, the sea, and inland waterways. If you prefer nature to busy seaside resorts, Brussa–Vallevecchia Beach is well worth a visit.

Beach Area Brussa

In the marked Pets’ Beach Area, dogs can stay together with their owners and use access to the sea. They must be kept on a leash no longer than 1.3 meters. A muzzle is only required if requested or when other visitors are nearby.

Brussa is among the best-preserved parts of the Venetian coast. Extensive sandy beaches, dunes, pine forests, and minimal development create an environment especially appreciated by lovers of a quiet holiday and long walks with a dog.

Unlike most seaside resorts, you will not find rows of umbrellas or extensive tourist facilities here. Precisely because of this, Brussa retains its natural character and offers a completely different atmosphere from most beaches on the northern Adriatic.

When planning your holiday, it is good to think not only about choosing a beach but also about your dog’s needs. In the summer months, temperatures on the coast can exceed 30 °C, and sand and asphalt heat up during the day so much that they can damage a dog’s paws. Therefore, pay increased attention especially to older dogs, puppies, and breeds sensitive to high temperatures.

Longer walks are best planned for the morning or evening hours, and you should ensure the dog has enough shade and regular access to fresh water. Before travelling, also consider its age, health condition, and physical fitness.
